Tips On How To Boost Your Metabolism

by Mehgan Tabuac 19 Jun 2020 1 comment

What is your metabolism?

It is the rate at which a person’s body burns calories for energy. The speed of your metabolism is dependent on many factors including age, sex, body fat, muscle mass, activity level, and genetics. Although there are aspects of your metabolism that you cannot control, there are some ways to help speed up the rate at which your body processes calories. Below are some ways to help you do so.

Drinking Green Tea

Drinking green tea will help promote your metabolism as it has antioxidants that will help burn up to an extra 70-100 calories per day. It also helps boost the fat-burning effects that come from exercise.

Resistance Training

Muscle mass has a higher metabolic rate than fat, which means that it requires more energy to preserve. By doing strength training, you are building muscle which in turn increases your metabolism. Resistance training involves lifting weights and doing exercises that use the weight of the body or resistance bands to build muscle.

Keep Hydrated

Drinking enough water is important for the body to operate at it’s best. Water is vital for optimal metabolism, and it may help a person lose weight. One study has found that adding 1.5 liters of water to your everyday intake reduced the average weight and body mass index in a group of overweight women age 18-23.

Stress Management

Stress influences hormone levels and it can make the body produce more cortisol than usual. Cortisol is the hormone that manages cravings which can lead to unhealthy eating patterns which then in turn can disrupt metabolism. Stress is also closely related to the quality of sleep, which can influence metabolism.

HIT Workouts

HIIT stands for high-intensity interval training which lines up periods of maximal effort and light exercise or rest. By doing HIIT, you continue burning calories even when the workout is complete. Mixing up your exercise routine, and adding in a few high-intensity workouts, can boost your metabolism and help you burn fat.

By following these simple steps, you can begin boosting your metabolism.
